Head north from Toronto and you'll come across the village of Tottenham, the southernmost community in New Tecumseth, Simcoe County. Tottenham is known as the home of the Tottenham Conservation Area and the wildly popular Tottenham Bluegrass Festival.
When it comes to how Tottenham got its name, locals have several conflicting theories. According to some folks, this idyllic community in south-central Ontario was named after the Tottens, one of the first families that settled in the area. Another name origins story that circulates in the area is that Tottenham was named in honor of the Tottenham Court Road. Regardless of which story you believe in, it's a widely accepted fact that the village started to be populated during the early 1800s and was eventually incorporated in 1884.
